Video games have been a core component of WWE’s merchandise for decades. The first game the company ever licensed and distributed was MicroLeague Wrestling for the Commodore64 and Atari ST consoles back in 1987. Since then WWE has released a total of 67 titles across many different systems and under a multitude of different titles and series.
Many wrestlers have been staples of these various titles, but none have been featured more often than The Undertaker. And now, The Deadman will feature in yet another title once WWE 2K23 releases in March.
Undertaker joins several other legends as part WWE 2K23 roster
In a tweet that went out on February 9th, the official WWE 2K23 Twitter account confirmed a legends roster which included the Deadman. Others listed in as part of this legends group include ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, Lita, Booker T, Beth Phoenix and Chyna.

Chyna was an interesting name as she was omitted from WWE game for almost twenty years. She has only appeared in nine titles overall. After being included the roster for WWF SmackDown 2: Know Your Role, which came out in 2000, she didn’t appear in any WWE-licensed video game until WWE 2K20, which came out in 2019.
As for Undertaker, he has appeared in more WWE video games than anyone else. According to Fightful, he has appeared in at least one annual video game release since 1991. That first game, WWF Super WrestleMania, came out shortly after his WWF/E debut in November 1990.
Furthermore, some WWE video games have gone further by including multiple versions of the iconic character in the same game. SmackDown: Here Comes The Pain included both American Badass version as a default character and “Old School (circa 1994) Undertaker as an unlockable legend character.
More recently, WWE 2K22 included three different versions of the same character in the default roster (standard, American Badass circa 2002, and 2010 version) plus three additional ones available via pre-order: Phantom of the Opera masked version circa 1995, Lord of Darkness circa 1998, and the WrestleMania 36 Boneyard version.
WWE 2K23 is scheduled to be released on March 17th, 2023 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows.
