The Undertaker has spoken out about Ricky Starks’ surprise WWE NXT debut on February 11, reflecting on their history together.
Starks, who made his first appearance on WWE NXT by entering through the crowd, addressed the audience, declaring his intention to “turn this place upside down.” In response to his debut, The Undertaker shared details of their relationship during a recent appearance on Busted Open Radio, revealing that the two have known each other for years.
Taker recalled first meeting Starks back in 2015 while he was training for a match with Shane McMahon at WrestleMania 32. Starks, a young wrestler at the time, was training at the same gym and stood out for his respectful attitude and dedication.
“So I’m training at this gym. I notice this kid is there every day. Doesn’t say anything, really respectful. As the training went along and we needed different spotters and different help, he was always right there. Finally we struck up a conversation, and he told me that he was trying to break into the business. I kinda talked to him about different things.”
Taker went on to mention that years later, Starks helped train his wife, Michelle McCool, for her surprise return at the Royal Rumble.
“I’ve seen him a few times here and there, and I’ve always had great conversations with him. He’s such a good kid, such a respectful kid…Yeah, that’s how we met. We met in a gym when I was getting ready for Shane at WrestleMania.”
Undertaker admitted that Starks’ debut took him by surprise, saying he hadn’t seen him in over a year before catching his appearance on NXT.

The Undertaker spoke about his infamous 2019 match with Goldberg at Super ShowDown and how they “stunk the joint up.” Undertaker recalled how the heat in the arena, coupled with the fact that they started the match relatively late in the night added fuel to the fire for the match to be as bad as it was.
