The Ultimate Swerve: What If Brock Lesnar Is The Rock’s Third Man?

Brock Lesnar John Cena Dwayne Johnson The Rock The Final Boss WWE SummerSlam 2025

Brock Lesnar’s WWE return at SummerSlam Sunday came out of left field, as he attacked John Cena unprovoked.

While this is something The Beast Incarnate has commonly done in the past, it has usually occurred when he wanted something from his rivals. In most cases, when a World Title was involved. However, this time he went after the man who had just lost a championship.

Two years ago, when he did the same to Cody Rhodes, things were different. At that time, Lesnar was not allowed to challenge for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship as long as Roman Reigns held the title. The World Heavyweight Championship only came into the picture after his rivalry with The American Nightmare had already commenced.

So, why did The Beast target John Cena after The Franchise Player had just lost the Undisputed WWE Title to Rhodes at SummerSlam?

Before we proceed, we would like to inform you that this is an opinion piece.

Brock Lesnar Might Have Resurfaced For The Rock As The Third Man

According to Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson himself, every little detail of his performances means something. He used his appearance at Bad Blood in 2024 as an example when he did the countdown taunt.

The Final Boss showed up unexpectedly after the main event of the night at the PLE on October 5, 2024, as Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, and Jimmy Uso stood in the ring. He counted to three, followed by a cutthroat gesture, before turning around and walking away.

At the time, The Rock kept everyone guessing whether he referred to the three men in the ring. But, what if he was alluding to three other men? What if the third man was Brock Lesnar?

Brock Lesnar Could Be What The Rock Meant With Two Fingers At WWE Elimination Chamber 2025

Post the main event of Elimination Chamber 2025 on March 1, Cody Rhodes came out to hype up his Undisputed WWE Championship showdown at WrestleMania 41 against the winner of the Men’s Elimination Chamber Match, John Cena. After a show of mutual respect between The Franchise Player and The American Nightmare, The Rock’s music hit. The Final Boss came out alongside Travis Scott to find out whether Rhodes was indeed going to accept his offer and ‘sell his soul’ to become The Brahma Bull’s corporate champion.

After The American Nightmare declined the offer, John Cena looked happy, seemingly for the champion not turning to the dark side, as he hugged the latter. The Final Boss then made another cutthroat gesture and threw up two fingers this time, looking at Cena, whose expression turned dark. Then he unleashed a brutal assault on Rhodes, with Scott and The Rock also joining in. This heel turn was shocking indeed, but The Final Boss inexplicably ejected himself from the storyline thereafter, putting a dampener on everything that ensued.

Be that as it may, The Final Boss can still pop up at any point. After John Cena’s unexpected face turn two nights before SummerSlam, it could be possible that The Rock was not happy with The Last Real Champion. Enter Brock Lesnar. Perhaps this is why The Beast was brought back amid his name appearing in Janel Grant’s ongoing lawsuit against former Chairman Vince McMahon.

Perhaps Lesnar was brought back to eliminate Cena because The Greatest Of All Time defied the orders of The Final Boss?

In The End, The Final Boss Has To Be Involved In Some Form Or Fashion, Right?

Much of the flak The Rock received was for not showing up at WrestleMania 41, and then going ahead and doing a tell-all interview mere days later on The Pat McAfee Show. However, Johnson has reiterated in the past that The Final Boss character can show up anywhere and at any time. Interesting to note that the Stamford-based promotion and Travis Scott reportedly had a falling out, leading to his removal from WWE 252K, hence it is likely he will have no further involvement in this storyline.

Meanwhile, Brock Lesnar’s return sets up a match against John Cena, who clearly views Lesnar as one of his iconic rivals. No arguments can be made there, as even the vast majority of fans feel the same way.

So, could this be WWE’s way of moving forward with Cena’s next match in his Farewell Tour after he passed on the torch to Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam? Or, could this be the beginning of The Final Boss’ return to WWE programming? Only time will tell.
