The Top WWE Star Who Wants An Extended Rivalry With Finn Balor

A WWE star has called out Finn Balor for a “proper program” following their recent meeting.

Originally set to take place in Dublin, Ireland as part of an NXT UK TakeOver show but was abandoned due to the ongoing pandemic, Gunther and Balor finally met one-on-one in the main event of the July 29th episode of Raw. Delivering what many fans had hoped for and then some, The Ring General emerged victorious in their first meeting as he moves on to fellow Judgment Day member and World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest at SummerSlam. With many wanting to see a rematch with more time given, the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion has also acknowledged that there is more to tell in their rivalry.

Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated about Balor, Gunther stated that it was a match he was very excited for and remains hopeful there will be another meeting:

“We’d just flown in from Japan before Raw, but wrestling Finn Balor, I was excited for that one,” said Gunther. “Years ago, he came to wXw when he transitioned from New Japan to WWE. I’ve known him since back then and he’s always someone I’ve always looked up to as a wrestler. He’s one of the best European wrestlers ever, and he did it his own way. It was great to be in the ring with an excellent professional wrestler.

“The match was exactly what it was supposed to be for the occasion. Down the line, I really hope we fulfill our potential with a proper program.”

When asked about Priest, the leader of Imperium stated that while he is aware of the challenges the World Heavyweight Champion has overcome, it is now his time to lead Raw as the top champion:

“I respect Damian Priest. He’s had a very impressive journey. But I also believe he’s not the right guy for the job. It’s on me to take that title from him, and it’s time to level up.”

Finn Balor Discusses Career Low Point

While Balor has been featured prominently as a part of The Judgment Day and currently reigns as one-half of the World Tag Team Champions alongside JD McDonagh, the former Universal Champion was not always part of key storylines and would more often than not be on the losing end of matches. Speaking in a previous interview, Finn Balor admitted during his WWE run he experienced the lowest point of his entire career.
