The TNA Star Who Uses “John Cena Method” To Handle Criticism

The TNA Star Who Uses

TNA World Champion Joe Hendry has revealed that he approaches criticism with the same mindset as John Cena.

After finally capturing the TNA World Championship at Genesis, Hendry reflected on the long road to his title win. Many fans believed he should have won the championship earlier, particularly at Slammiversary and Bound for Glory. When those moments didn’t come to fruition, some criticised the company for missing the opportunity of his rising popularity.

In a recent interview with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard, Hendry explained how he handles such feedback, crediting Cena’s philosophy for shaping his approach.

“I take the John Cena methodology, which is you do the absolute best with the situations that you are presented with. That is the approach I’ve always taken.”

Hendry emphasised that his role isn’t to dictate when or where he gets title opportunities but rather to maximise every chance he’s given.

“Actually, in the last couple of years, I’ve really focused more on that, just delivering the absolute. At the end of the day, my job isn’t to dictate to management when I get this title shot or that title shot or who I face. My job is to do the absolute best with what I’m given.”

Looking back at the missed opportunities in 2024, Hendry acknowledged that the fans were ready for him to win. However, he believes that his eventual victory at Genesis was still the right moment.

“I remember being at Slammiversary and thinking, ‘Whoa, the fans are ready for this.’ I was at Bound for Glory, thinking, ‘Whoa, the fans are ready for this,’ but you know what? They were ready for it at Genesis.”

Now as TNA World Champion, Hendry looks to continue proving why the fans’ belief in him was justified.

Joe Hendry made a surprise appearance at the Royal Rumble, and following the show called out several top WWE stars.

What Did Joe Hendry Say About Having A Match With John Cena On His 2025 Retirement Tour?

Joe Hendry expressed his desire to face John Cena as part of Cena’s 2025 retirement tour and said that he believes he could hold his own with Cena if they went head-to-head in a promo battle. Hendry recognised Cena’s skills on the microphone but said he would relish the challenge if he was presented the opportunity.

According to the latest odds, John Cena is no longer the odds-on favourite to win the Royal Rumble.
