The Rock's Return Gives WWE SmackDown Ratings Boost

The Rock continues to draw huge viewership numbers to WWE SmackDown.

The Great One was in attendance for the March 1st edition of Friday Night SmackDown. He joined The Bloodline in the ring to cut a lengthy promo that saw him insult the audience, acknowledge Roman Reigns as his Tribal Chief and address the challenge laid down by Cody Rhodes at Elimination Chamber.

At the PLE in Australia, Rhodes and Seth Rollins were guests on the Grayson Waller Effect. During the segment, The American Nightmare challenged the People’s Champion to a one-on-one match “any time, anywhere.”

The Rock had a counter-offer for Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40

Instead, the Brahma Bull proposed a tag team match for WrestleMania 40 Night 1. He suggested he team with Reigns to take on Rhodes and Rollins before laying down the stakes: if Rhodes and Rollins win, The Bloodline is out of Reigns’ Universal Championship match at WrestleMania. However, if The Rock and Reigns win, then it’s “Bloodline Rules” for Reigns vs. Rhodes.

The Rock envisioned himself in various roles: announcer for Cody’s pain, Jimmy as a biased referee, and even Solo singing a hilariously off-key national anthem (much to Solo’s initial shock, though the crowd loved it). He made it clear he could legally bash Rhodes’ head in with his chair.

He then called Rollins a “walking clown show” before telling them to come on the show next week to give The Bloodline an answer.

The full segment has racked up 2 million views on the company’s official YouTube channel.

The strong viewership numbers continued to come when TVLine, reported that the show drew 2.23 million total viewers in the preliminary numbers.
