The Rock’s Grandmother Lia Maivia To Join WWE Hall Of Fame Class Of 2024

The Rock and WWE Hall of Famer Lia Maivia

According to a new report, The Rock‘s grandmother Lia Maivia is set to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

The latest class to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame looks to be nearly complete. Paul Heyman was the first member of the class of 2024 to be announced, followed by Bull Nakano. On March 8th, The US Express (Mike Rotunda and Barry Windham) were announced as the latest inductees.

A recent report from Fightful Select indicated that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson had a significant amount of influence over the new Hall of Fame class, and that he’d pitched his grandmother Lia Maivia as a potential candidate to receive the honor.

The news came after Rock joined the board of TKO back in January and also earned the naming rights to his WWE persona.

Now, Dave Meltzer reports in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Maivia will indeed be inducted, writing:

Paul Levesque’s first handpicked WWE Hall of Fame class has been confirmed as Paul Heyman, Bull Nakano, Barry Windham & Mike Rotunda, Muhammad Ali, Thunderbolt Patterson and Lia Maivia.

How Is Lia Maivia Related To The Rock?

The latest inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame was married to High Chief Peter Maivia and took over the promotion of Polynesian Pro Wrestling following her husband’s death. Her daughter Ata Johnson was the mother of Dwayne Johnson, making Lia The Rock’s maternal grandmother.

Lia took over the promotion of Polynesian Pro Wrestling after the death of her husband in 1982, making her one of the first women to become a professional wrestling promoter.

A few days before the ceremony, The Rock has confirmed he will induct Lia Maivia into the WWE Hall of Fame.
