Wrestling might have more than one royal family, but one of the most well-established ones has gotten a lot bigger with DNA tests proving The Rock has five half-siblings.
Sports Illustrated has reported on the astounding story that The Rock’s father, WWE Hall of Famer Rocky Johnson fathered five other children by different women during his life. Their story is set to be told in a documentary entitled Just Call Me Lisa, made by one of Johnson’s children.
Rocky Johnson had two children, Curtis and Wanda, with his first wife Una Sparks. The Soulman later married Ata Maivia and in 1972 they had a son named Dwayne, who went on to become the world over as The Rock.
Sports Illustrated’s piece gives a lengthy profile on each of Johnson’s five other children – who were all born before Dwayne in the late sixties and very early seventies.
Lisa Purves is the daughter of Rocky Johnson and the one behind the film being made that has brought these five strangers together with their shared bond of being Johnson’s children. She spoke about being in Vancouver when her famous half-brother arrived in town to film Skyscraper and how that led to depression as whenever she sees The Rock “I only see that our dad loved him and not me.”
Purves added that “Dwayne owes us nothing” and the five half-siblings of The Rock make it clear they want nothing from him. Another of Rocky Johnson’s children Adrian Bowles added “Dwayne has nothing to do with the decisions that his dad made, he doesn’t even know who we are.”
After getting the majority of the group together, Lisa Purves organised DNA tests for them all and the results proved that they all were the children of Rocky Johnson.
The group is in contact with Rocky’s brother Ricky and he spoke about showering his nieces and nephews with love in the absence of any from their father, “I keep reinforcing that I love them. I tell them that all the time, all the kids.”
