One top WWE NXT star recalled a conversation with The Rock.
Oba Femi has been impressive since joining WWE. Not only is he a former NXT North American Champion, Femi is also the current NXT Champion after his shocking win at New Year’s Evil.
Also on the special New Year’s Evil episode of NXT on January 7th, The Rock made his NXT debut. Ahead of his appearance in front of the crowd in attendance, The Final Boss interrupted a meeting between former NXT Champion Ethan Page and his daughter Ava, who serves as General Manager of the brand.
Speaking in a new interview with Cameron Hawkins for Uncrowned, Oba Femi spoke about his role as a big man in wrestling before recalling praise from The Rock during his visit.
“I’ve come around at a very opportune time when big-man wrestling is not the main thing. It’s become like a niche, almost a lost art because everyone’s doing Canadian Destroyers and everyone’s high flying and everyone’s spring-boarding, trying to pop the crowd. … It’s refreshing that the fans get to see an Oba Femi who comes in and stays on the ground and is physical and fires up and is riled up. I think people miss that…

How Did The Rock Affect WWE NXT Ratings?
The Rock’s appearance on NXT helped the brand earn its highest rating in five years. As per Variety, NXT boasted a massive viewership of 957,000, up from the 626,000 viewers from the December 31st episode. Also, it is the highest number that NXT has recorded since September 25, 2019. The Brahma Bull’s appearance on the Tuesday-night show helped them break their five-year-long record.
