Update On The Rock Potentially Returning At WrestleMania 39

The Rock

It may be WrestleMania season but the rumours are already swirling for 2023’s event with a new report casting light on The Rock’s reputed return at the event.

WrestleMania 39 will emanate from SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California as WrestleMania goes Hollywood once again. With The Show Of Shows heading to Tinseltown, many believe that this is the perfect opportunity for the man best known as Dwayne Johnson to make his return to the ring for one last match to cap off a glorious career.

Dave Meltzer previously reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that The Rock was pencilled in by WWE for the event, as was ‘Rowdy’ Ronda Rousey:

“The idea is to lead to the biggest WrestleMania ever in 2023 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA, with Reigns vs. The Rock and Becky Lynch vs. Rousey. Of course a million things may happen between then and now and with Dwayne Johnson’s schedule, it may not be possible.”

Now Meltzer has provided an update on The Rock’s proposed participation in the event on Wrestling Observer Radio, saying that The Rock wants to compete at the event:

“So the situation with The Rock is exactly what you’d think. The belief is that Rock wants to do it. They believe that is probably the main event, but they are all very aware that there are things that could get in the way and that might not happen, but the working idea is Roman Reigns against Rock for L.A.”

“But, it is not etched in stone by any means. That’s been the plan for months, and months, and months, and nothing has changed. They’re of the opinion that he won’t back out, and he really wants it because time is running out on him.”

The Rock recently opened up about his battles with depression over the years that are looked at in his NBC sitcom, Young Rock.
