The Rock Pays Tribute To “Hero” Rowdy Roddy Piper

WWE legend The Rock has taken to social media to pay tribute to one of his wrestling heroes, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper.

WWE Hall of Famer Piper was the subject of a recent A&E Biography Special, looking back at his life and career.

Posting on Instagram The Rock paid tribute to a man he called “one of my squared circle heroes.” In the message, The People’s Champion recalled his first meeting with Piper as an eight-year-old, before adding that there was “no better heel than Hot Rod.”

I first met Roddy when I was 8yrs old in the Carolinas where he and my old man were wrestling up and down the roads together.
Many moons later he would have a strong influence on my career when I wrestled as a “heel” getting “real heat” as we say in wrestling parlance.
No greater heel than Hot Rod.

Meanwhile, Drew McIntyre has also recently opened up about his own relationship with “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. Writing in his new book, A Chosen Destiny, McIntyre revealed that he used to speak with Piper regularly during his first run with the company. The Scottish Warrior added that Piper even pitched to work with him in 2011.
