The concept of The Rock wrestling one more match has been a hot topic of conversation and according to the man himself, it’s not off the table!
During the Attitude Era, The Rock was one of, if not the biggest star on offer. Alongside ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, Mick Foley, Triple H, and countless others, The Rock guided the company through its boom period.
Since he officially stepped away from the ring, the real-life Dwayne Johnson has donned the trunks on a handful of occasions, even garnering another run as WWE Champion. Wrestling the likes of John Cena, CM Punk, and even Erick Redbeard during this time, there’s one man who fans want to see him face; Roman Reigns.
The two have long been rumoured for a singles match, particularly at WrestleMania 39 next April. Discussing the idea of returning to the ring again, The Rock didn’t seem completely opposed to it, as he told Entertainment Tonight’s Rachel Smith:
“Of course, yeah. I’m always, always, open to that, for sure.”
The Rock wrestled his final regular match for WWE at the 2003 Backlash pay-per-view before he moved on to a career in Hollywood. Bar a one-time return at WrestleMania XX the following April, it took almost a decade before he returned to wrestling on a part-time basis, wrestling five matches between November 2011 and April 2013.
It was reported by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio at the end of March that WWE were hoping for two marquee contests at WrestleMania 39 next year, those being Becky Lynch vs. Ronda Rousey, and The Rock vs. Roman Reigns. Whether or not The Rock does return all depends on his busy schedule.
