The Rock’s latest project is in production.
Following on from his most recent WWE run that culminated in a return match at WrestleMania 40 and subsequent appearances, the Hollywood star has made his return to acting to work on The Smashing Machine, a biopic on former UFC fighter Mark Kerr, which sees The Perople’s Champion cast in the lead role. Competing in 27 MMA fights throughout his career, Kerr was victorious in 15, suffered 11 defeats and saw one fight go to a no contest.
The first look at the upcoming movie has been posted to Rock’s social media and sees The Great One completely transform into Kerr for the role:
The Smashing Machine is being produced by Seven Bucks and A24 Films, which is the same studio that produced the Von Erich biopic The Iron Claw. Academy Award nominee Emily Blunt is also confirmed to be a part of the cast along with boxer Oleksandr Usyk. This is the first of 2 announced projects involving the Hollywood star as Rock is also working on a live-action remake of the popular Disney film Moana.
The Rock Not Done With WWE
As was seen in his confrontation with Cody Rhodes on the Raw after WrestleMania, the former World Champion stated that it would not be the last time that fans would see him in the professional wrestling world. During a recent interview, it was revealed that The Rock was set to continue his storyline involvement during his hiatus.
Likely to return to the ring once more at WrestleMania 41 in Vegas, a major match has been reportedly set for The Rock in 2025.
