What do critics have to say about Dark Match, a new horror film starring Chris Jericho?
Back in April, Variety reported that Chris Jericho was set to star in a new wrestling-themed action horror film. The film is set in the 1980’s, and according to IMDB, the synopsis is as follows:
A small-time wrestling company accepts a well-paying gig in a backwoods town only to learn, too late, that the community is run by a mysterious cult leader with devious plans for their match.
The film is being released by Blue Finch Films and is directed by Lowell Dean. In addition to Jericho, the cast includes Sarah Canning, Michael Eklund and Steven Ogg. Jericho is also listed as Executive Producer of the movie alongside Eleanor Wiebe. Dark Match was released on Shudder on January 31st, and reviews are already coming in.
What Rating Does Chris Jericho’s “Dark Match” Have On Rotten Tomatoes?
As of this writing, the film has a 67% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The audience score is not yet available.
Critic Craig D. Lindsey wasn’t a fan of the film, writing:
Most likely written under duress, “Match” is clogged with contradiction and ill-conceived excessiveness.
Andrew Parker was slightly kinder to to film but still rated it rotten, writing:
Rich in spirit and performance but light in the execution department, Dark Match has a great concept that will easily appeal to genre buffs, wrestling enthusiasts, and the crossover area between the two, but struggles to hit its own gory sweet spot.
Randy Meyers, however, had high praise for the film with the following review:
Dark Match is violently funny and all but demands a sequel.
