The real reason why Stephanie McMahon has departed WWE has been reportedly revealed.
As reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the now former CEO left the position due to the return of her father Vince McMahon to the company. The report states that due to Vince returning, Stephanie was about to be demoted from her current role, and instead made the decision to step away.
Why Did Stephanie McMahon Really Leave WWE?
The update goes on to say that there is no financial need for Stephanie to remain with the company, as “she doesn’t need the money or the job.” It should be noted that the sources who have reported this information were unhappy about the departure of Stephanie McMahon.
Those that were spoke to by Dave Meltzer also believed that McMahon had done a great job given the circumstances, as the now former CEO had been “thrown into the co-CEO role” following the shocking news of her father Vince announcing his retirement back in July 2022.
Stephanie McMahon announced her departure from her role on January 10th, 2023. The address to the public and Board of Directors was the announcement that McMahon had decided to step down from her role of co-CEO and take the previous decision to take a leave of absence one step further by leaving the company altogether.
While the return of Vince McMahon to the company was a shock to some, members of the Board of Directors did expect it to take place. Current CEO of the organisation Nick Khan has stated that both he and Stephanie McMahon knew that Vince would one day make a return.
Following Vince McMahon’s return to the Board of Directors, it was announced shortly afterwards that McMahon had been unanimously elected as the Executive Chairman of the Board.
