The New Day has fired back at critics after capturing their eleventh tag team championships in WWE on Monday’s episode of Raw.
Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston squared off against the team that defeated them for the Raw Tag Team Titles in December 2020. Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin of The Hurt Business defeated The New Day at the TLC event.
On Raw, Woods and Kingston were able to enact revenge by reclaiming the titles. Kingston would hit Benjamin with a top rope double stomp and pin him for the victory. The celebration for New Day would be short-lived as they were challenged to defend their titles at WrestleMania 37. AJ Styles and his giant enforcer Omos put forth the challenge that would see Omos compete for the first time on WWE television.
After Raw Kingston and Woods had a message for their critics and those that they say are “tired” of seeing The New Day with tag team gold.
Kingston excitedly stated:
“We told a lot of people what was going to happen. A lot of people are upset right now. ‘Oh, we’re tired of seeing New Day as champions’. Don’t be mad at us, be mad at Shelton and Cedric for not being able to keep the championships.”
“Be mad at all your favorite tag teams for not being able to step up against your boys. Don’t be mad at us, we’re just doing our jobs. All we do is go out and entertain and win championships. That’s it. Don’t be mad at us. Be mad at your favorites.”
Should the prosed Raw Tag Team Championship match take place at WrestleMania, it would mark Xavier Woods’ first match at the event since 2016. At WrestleMania 32 Woods, Kingston, and New Day partner Big E lost to Alberto Del Rio, Sheamus, and Rusev.
