The Miz Thought He Was Fired After Messing Up His Lines Live On Raw

The Miz

The Miz has discussed a painful episode from his early WWE career when he had a mind blank and forgot his lines during a Diva Search segment on Raw.

Miz came to the attention of WWE when he entered the fourth season of their reality show Tough Enough. Coming runner-up to Daniel Puder, Miz earned a developmental contract and began training in OVW.

In 2006, The Miz was finally called up to the main roster but not at first, in a wrestling role. Vince McMahon saw Miz as the new Ryan Seacrest and made him the host of SmackDown in June. Shortly after The Miz would host the Diva Search competition leading to his excruciating blooper.

Speaking on his WWE 24 special, the two-time WWE Champion re-lived the moment:

“So we did the Diva Search casting special, and then we brought them into the ring. There’s no cue cards, there’s no teleprompter, it’s just in your memory and you ‘go go go’, and this is live by the way. We don’t get a second take.”

“Then a cold sweat came over me, and my entire mind went blank and I started hearing the audience, you can feel an audience drain out, and know that you are messing up. The most important thing, I had to remember, was the phone number and I forgot it. So I looked at my wrist and I was sweating so much that it erased off my wrist. I remember going backstage thinking ‘I’m going to get fired’.”

Rather than be fired, Miz received some pearls of wisdom from WWE Chairman Vince McMahon to make sure such an occurrence never happened again:

“I walk back and went over to Vince and go ‘I’m so sorry, I apologise, this will never happen again, I will make sure it won’t happen again’ and he goes ‘I know it won’t happen again’. He took me aside and said ‘bullet points kid, you need to learn bullet points, and I know you will do better next time because you will have to do it next Friday’. And it’s like ‘oh, I’m not fired’. The next week Shawn Michaels and Triple H make fun of me.”

The Miz also detailed his experience of being banished from the WWE locker room for a spell after complaints about where he ate in the locker room.
