The Miz reportedly suffered a knee injury during his match with Damian Priest at WrestleMania Backlash.
As noted by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Miz suffered a torn ACL. However, the severity of the tear is currently unknown. There is also no news on how long the former WWE Champion will be absent.
During the bout, Priest landed awkwardly on Miz’ knee, which he favoured for the rest of the match.
The injury is particularly noteworthy as The Miz had never previously sustained any kind of serious injury, despite an in-ring career spanning 17 years.
The Miz didn’t appear on the following episode of RAW, with John Morrison dedicating his match with Damien Priest to his friend.
The clash between The Miz and Damian Priest had already grabbed headlines after the match was invaded by zombies. It had previously been announced that the match would be a Lumberjack match but come the show there was a major surprise in store. In a cross-promotion with Batista’s new movie Army Of The Dead, the lumberjacks were zombies.
While Morrison did his best to fight off his new adversaries outside the ring, he was eventually dragged off behind the barricade. In the ring, Priest nailed Miz with Hit The Lights to pick up the win. As Priest celebrated the zombies stormed the ring, seemingly eating The Miz.
In the aftermath of the match Chris Jericho took a not so thinly veiled jab at the presentation.
Recently, PWInsider.com reported that people within WWE thought AEW’s Blood & Guts match “set the business back 30 years” and that management hated the WarGames-esque encounter.
After the match at WrestleMania Backlash, Jericho took to social media, commenting ““Zombies…ZOMBIES? Wow that just set wrestling back 30 years.”
