Immediately after re-signing with the WWE in 2019 John Morrison reunited with old friend The Miz. The pair originally teamed together back in 2007 where they won the WWE Tag Team Championships.
Appearing on Renee Paquette’s Oral Sessions podcast, new WWE Champion The Miz discussed Morrison’s return to the company and why it made sense for the duo to join forces once more.
“John signed with WWE and it was a natural fit to bring him back and get him warmed up to everything we needed to get done and to showcase what he can do. It’s been working. On Raw, we are the entire show. People see the chemistry between us. We’re doing things outside of it like right now, we wrote another rap”
One of the things which really set Miz and Morrison apart during their first run together was their willingness to try things outside of the ring. Much like today, back in 2007 WWE had a vast roster, meaning that there were often a number of Superstars who weren’t on television every week. However, instead of simply accepting their lot Miz and Morrison decided to make their own opportunity, creating The Dirt Sheet web series.
The Miz went on to detail how cutting a promo on Stephanie McMahon helped get the series the green light.
“If you’re not on television, WWE has many avenues where you can showcase your talents. Back in 2007, John Morrison and I were having great matches but nobody knew who we were as a tag team. I went to Stephanie McMahon and cut a promo on her, and said, ‘John and I want to do The Dirt Sheet.’ She said, ‘What’s The Dirt Sheet?’ ‘It’s a show that’s a cross between The Soup, Saturday Night Live, a lot of skits and variety. We’re going to pick on everybody.’ Then I get really heated and gave her a promo and was like, ‘We’re the greatest tag team of the 21st century, be jealous!’ ‘Be jealous, I like that.’ The next day, I got a call from creative who were like, ‘What’s this thing you want to do? Stephanie wants you to do it.’ We started writing, editing, every single week. It’s before YouTube was a thing. We created it and it allowed us to show who we were. When opportunities don’t present themselves, make opportunities for yourself”
The Miz recently grabbed the headlines at WWE Elimination Chamber by winning the WWE Championship from Drew McIntyre. The new champion is set to defend his title against Bobby Lashley on the upcoming March 1st edition of Monday Night RAW.
Meanwhile John Morrison remains by the side of his friend on RAW, where he was defeated by Matt Riddle on the 22nd February episode of the red brand. The former WWE Intercontinental Champion will also be joined in WWE by his wife Taya Valkyrie, who recently signed with the company.
