After several weeks of back-and-forth win exchanges, the AEW World Trios Championship situation has finally been resolved. In the main-event of the January 11th edition of AEW Dynamite, The Elite – Kenny Omega and The Young bucks – bested Death Triangle to win the titles.
The seventh and final match in the series was an Escalera de la Muerte (ladder) match. And as expected from two teams that knew each other so well and had such deep history together, this match was filled with the same sorts of high-flying lunacy.
Kenny Omega ended up being the difference maker for his team. despite missing a suicide dive and crashing through a table on the floor, Omega rallied back and survived much more punishment.
As the Bucks were taken out by the Lucha Brothers, Omega survived a Falcon Arrow on the ringside mats from PAC and still managed to re-enter the ring and stop the champions from retaining the championships.
PAC used the hammer once again but this time it didn’t have any lasting effect. Then, as the chaos continued with one wrestler after another crashing and burning, one of the Young Bucks took a cradle piledriver onto a horizontal ladder.
But then Omega got his big moment of glory.
The Elite are now 2-time AEW World Trios Champions
As Fenix reached for the title belts hanging above the ring, Omega pulled him back and hit a One-Winged Angel off the horizontal latter. But the moment Omega landed, PAC was already one step ahead. PAC dove off the top rope with his Red Arrow, and connected…with Omega’s knees.
With PAC now out of the way, Omega was able to climb the ladder and pull the title belts down to win the match.
