AEW previously welcomed Andrade after his first WWE run ended. There’s now growing rumors and speculation on another All Elite comeback for the Mexican veteran amid a new angle on Andrade’s AEW past and future.
El Idolo joined All Elite Wrestling on June 4, 2021, around two months after his 64-month WWE tenure came to an end. The former NXT Champion left while frustrated over AEW creative at the end of 2023, then returned at the WWE Royal Rumble. Word dropped this week that Andrade was released by WWE due to a disciplinary-related incident.
Sources then reported this afternoon that the 35-year-old had a WWE Wellness Policy violation. Andrade has a strong history with CMLL, and has wrestled more matches for the legendary lucha promotion than any other group. Talk from earlier today on Wrestling Observer Radio revealed what the future might hold for CMLL and Andrade, and now there’s new insight into a potential future with AEW.
Andrade’s AEW Past May Prevent 2025 Comeback
Andrade El Idolo debuted for All Elite Wrestling with a strong buzz, but it wasn’t too long before his fans began to express frustration over how he was being used, or not being used. When he left, there was talk that Andrade himself was not happy.
On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer speculated on a potential AEW return for the former WWE Speed Champion. He also pointed to how Tony Khan now has talents like Mike Bailey and Kevin Knight that are more cooperative than Andrade was.
“Would AEW take him or not? I don’t know what Tony’s gonna do. He tried to leave on good terms, he just decided he wasn’t gonna go back, he went back like they all do. … He’s a good wrestler and all, but I think at this point if I’m AEW, I am not really fond of using ex-WWE guys who have already proven to you that they want to go back to WWE, and they’re not going to be happy there. He caused problems [in AEW], and he wasn’t the most willing and cooperative person there, and… he’s good, really good, but they got guys way better than him that are a lot more cooperative than him,” Dave Meltzer said.
Andrade’s last AEW match came on December 30, 2023. He was defeated by Miro aka Rusev in just over 15 minutes at the Worlds End PPV
