Goldberg has admitted that he owes a lot to the Guerrero family.
Unlike previous prospective wrestlers, the former Atlanta Falcons player had no previous experience in the wrestling world when he signed with WCW in 1997. Luckily for the former World Champion, he was able to seek advice and training from Eddie and Chavo Guerrero to make sure that he had the fundamentals locked down. Additionally, the Guerreros had no ego and only wanted to see Goldberg improve.
While appearing on the Alamo City Podcast, the former World Champion discussed his relationship with Eddie and Chavo and how they were selfless with their time and advice:
“That Guerrero family had such a huge impact on me when I was coming up. They would take the time, unlike others, who felt threatened, they would take the time to make sure I knew the basics. Whether it was Eddie or Chavo. Chavo was great with me. The entire family, I have nothing but found memories with all of our interactions. In this day and age, a lot of people have ulterior motives.
That family never had an ulterior motive, just an effort to make you better than you were before. That, you have to take your hat off to and cover your heart for, and you have to be appreciative that you run into people with such good character.”
Former WWE Star Looks Back On Infamous Goldberg Match
Although the Hall of Famer would find success in WCW and WWE by winning the World Championship numerous times, his final matches are not looked back upon as fondly. In 2019 Goldberg faced The Undertaker in a first time ever match at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia. The match quickly became a nightmare due to Goldberg suffering a concussion in the match and Undertaker being dropped on his head and only being centimetres away from a severe injury. Looking back on the disastrous match, an ex-WWE star gave their own perspective.
H/t to Fightful.
