The Hurricane, Shane Helms has pledged his support to Nikki Cross and her new superhero-inspired character.
While it may be hard to believe, Helms wasn’t given ‘The Hurricane’ name at birth, instead adopting the moniker in the summer of 2001 shortly after arriving in WWE.
The character enjoyed a great run of success on RAW through the early 2000’s, memorably picking up a win over The Rock. In fact, the character’s success led to the creation of ‘Mighty Molly’ and a run alongside Rosey, Helms’ ‘Super Hero In Training.’
After Nikki Cross debuted her own superhero-esque look on the latest episode of Monday Night RAW, many fans memories went straight to Helms. The shock debut of Cross’ new character caught many fans by surprise and received some criticism online.
However, The Hurricane, who also initially faced resistance to his own character, has now vowed to support Cross “every step of the way.” Responding to a post which pointed out that the ‘Hurricane’ character wasn’t always so loved, Helms threw his support behind Cross.
“Yup. So did a lot of my friends and peers. But I got it over, so over in fact, that THREE other Talents became derivatives of MY character. How often does that happen? And now @NikkiCrossWWE steps up to the plate and I’m gonna support her every step of the way! Fly Nikki Fly!”

On the most recent episode of Monday Night RAW, Nikki Cross debuted her new look while teaming with Alexa Bliss to take on Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler. While Cross would eventually pin Baszler to pick up the win, all the talk was over the Scottish Superstar’s new outfit.
After the show, Cross took to social media to address the her new look in a heartfelt message to fans.
“Bringing THIS to life has given me such joy. The roll I have been on the last few weeks gave me the boost I needed to unveil this to the world, that everyone has that spark and they can try anything they want to, just listen to your heart. I want to blossom like a butterfly. I want us all to. I don’t have superpowers. I can’t fly. I don’t have super strength.
But putting on my mask, my cape, my gauntlets, my armband, my whole outfit on……makes me feel like I can try anything. I might fall down. But il get back up, each and every time. We all will. #wweraw@WWE@peacocktv”
With her latest victory, Cross qualified both herself and Alexa Bliss for the Women’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match. The pair will be joined by Asuka and Naomi who also won a qualifying match on RAW. More participants will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
