Daniel Garcia weighs in on AEW managing to pull off the “greatest steal ever” when they signed two former NXT competitors.
Daniel Garcia made his AEW Dynamite debut on August 4th, 2021, teaming with Matt Menard & Angelo Parker, then known as 2point0, in a losing effort to Jon Moxley, Eddie Kingston & Darby Alliin. Garcia, Parker & Menard have been aligned ever since, even joining the Jericho Appreciation Society together back in March and taking part in marquee matches like Anarchy in the Arena and Blood & Guts.
Speaking on the Battleground Podcast, Garcia stated Menard & Parker were the greatest steals in the business when comparing their work in NXT to their current run in AEW:
“I saw something online the other day and it said, ‘2Point0, Matt and Angelo, they weren’t the biggest signing in AEW history, like they’re not Bryan, they’re not Punk, but they were the best signing in AEW history,’”
“If you look at where they were in ‘NXT’ to what they’re doing now, it might be the greatest steal in the history of the business. It might be the greatest steal ever.” (h/t Wrestling Inc)
Menard & Parker signed deals with WWE in early 2019, making their television debut in September of that year as Chase Parker & Matt Martel, collectively known as Ever-Rise, losing to Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch.
They would spend most of the rest of their run in WWE working on 205 Live with few appearances on NXT’s weekly show as enhancement talent.
Menard & Parker were released from WWE on June 25, 2021, alongside the likes of Tony Nese, Breezango, Big Damo & Marina Shafir.
