Sting’s son Steven has looked back on his involvement in his father’s retirement match and what he was the most concerned about.
Making his final match extra special, The Icon was accompanied to the ring by sons Garrett and Steven, who were dressed as Surfer Sting and nWo Wolfpac Sting respectively. The brothers, who were beaten down by The Young Bucks a couple of weeks before Revolution, got some much-needed retribution on the EVPs by hitting multiple Stinger splashes onto the former Tag Team Champions.
Growing up with the legendary wrestler as their father, Steven and Garrett hit amazing splashes that led many to comment that they should follow in their father’s footsteps. Although some may be under the impression that they have been practising the move for decades, this was not the case.
Speaking to Wrestling News.co, Steven commented that they had never done the signature move the day before the match and added that his biggest worry was to jump too high and go flying over the top:
“I think people the assumption was the Garrett, and I grew up doing Stinger splashes, you know, every weekend or something. We had our first attempts the day before. And so, not a ton of practice. And it’s actually something that looks so simple. But strategizing, where you don’t overshoot, is kind of more difficult than it seems.
And so I actually was joking earlier. You know, if that was the free throw line that I pulled up from, I probably could have pulled up from half-court if I really went for it. But the last thing you want to do is overshoot and go over the top on your dad’s last ride. So, just a few cues from my dad to have fun and jump high.”
Sting and Darby won the match, allowing the Hall of Famer to retire as Tag Team Champion. The Icon, Darby Allin, Garrett and Steven all celebrated in the ring after the bell.
Sting’s Son Garrett Looks Back On Amazing Opportunity
With both Steven and Garrett putting on great performances in the main event of Revolution, the sons of The Icon have each told behind-the-scenes stories about their respective involvement in the historic encounter. In a separate interview, Sting’s son Garrett opened up about being in the match and noted how he did not want to ruin it.
