The Acclaimed have some new AEW gold.
Leading into All In, The Acclaimed and the House of Black had been at war for weeks. The more time that passed, the greater the tension, and after one defeat too many, Billy Gunn seemingly retired, leaving his boots in the ring.
However, that didn’t bring the issues to a close. Instead, Gunn reversed his decision to retire and set up a match for the Trios World Titles at Wembley Stadium.
In front of a packed house in London, The Acclaimed got the win, despite the best efforts of the spooky trio flanked by Julia Hart.
Fast forward to the August 30th episode of Dynamite and the celebrations were in full swing. In the ring, the popular trio unveiled new championship belts with pick straps, and incredibly, they scissor!
Andrew Zarian had previously reported that new title belts were on the way.
Have The Acclaimed Been AEW World Trios Champions Before?
The victory at Wembley Stadium represented the first time Billy Gunn, Max Caster, and Anthony Bowens had won World Trios gold. However, Caster and Bowens have been AEW World Tag Team Champions in the past, having held the titles from September 2022 until February 2023 when they lost out to The Gunns.
The Acclaimed’s success was extra special for Gunn who is now well into his role as a veteran on the AEW roster. The win is the first time that the WWE Hall of Famer has held a title in a major promotion since holding the WWE World Tag Team Titles in 2014. Prior to that, Gunn hadn’t held major gold since 2002.
