Jon Moxley will defend his IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship against Lance Archer at night two of AEW Fyter Fest in a Texas Death Match.
On night one of Fyter Fest Moxley successfully defended his prized championship over “Machine Gun” Karl Anderson in a fast paced contest. As Moxley toasted his victory in the ring the camera cut backstage to Lance Archer and Jake “The Snake” Roberts.
Archer, who was defeated by Moxley for the championship in a Texas Death Match at Wrestle Kingdom 14, had some choice words for the champion. The Murderhawk Monster said that he’d never received the opportunity to avenge his defeat, before laying down the challenge to Moxley for July 21st. But it wasn’t just any challenge, Archer wants to exact revenge in a Texas Death Match.
“You took that championship from me, a year and a half ago. January 4 in Tokyo Japan. And your win record is impeccable, from Suzuki, to Kenta to Yugi Nagata and now Karl Anderson. But you know what? It’s time. It’s time for my rematch. We had a Texas Death Match in Toyko Japan, and I think it’s only fitting that in Dallas, Texas, next week we do it again… They say you probably shouldn’t be afraid, but you know better and I know different, and next week one of us is gonna leave the champion, one of us is not gonna be standing.”

Since winning the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship in January 2020, Jon Moxley has become the longest reigning champion in history, racking up a record number of defences.
Meanwhile it was recently revealed that Moxley was originally meant to drop the championship to Karl Anderson at Wrestle Kingdom 2020.
The rematch between Archer and Moxley will be joined by Britt Baker vs. Nyla Rose for the AEW Women’s World Championship on July 21st.
