Tennis Icon Unhappy With Hulk Hogan Day Announcement: “A Nasty Human Being”

WWE star Hulk Hogan and tennis player Martina Navratilova

A day honoring the late Hulk Hogan received criticism from a tennis icon.

Only July 24, news hit that wrestling legend Hulk Hogan passed away in his hometown of Clearwater, Florida, after a cardiac arrest. Many fellow wrestling icons, even those outside WWE, posted tributes and messages to honor The Hulkster. However, that wasn’t the same reaction for everybody.

Although one of the most well-known wrestling icons in history, Hulk Hogan was also involved in controversies in his career. The most notable being his previous racist comments, his political affiliation has also caused more division among the fans.

Due to the aforementioned reasons, not every wrestling fan or individual has a fond memory of the wrestling legend. Despite the polarizing opinions from the public, this didn’t stop Florida’s Governor, Ron DeSantis, from honoring the WWE Hall of Famer in a major way by naming August 1 as “Hulk Hogan Day” in the state.

The decision by the governor didn’t sit well with many, including Czech-American former professional tennis player Martina Navratilova, who is currently residing in Florida. On X (Twitter), the athlete cursed out Ron DeSantis and insulted the WWE Hall of Famer.

Our governor can eff off on this. Hulk was a nasty human being.”

Hulk Hogan Was Devastated During His Final WWE Appearance

Hulk Hogan’s final WWE appearance occurred on RAW’s Netflix debut earlier this year. The Hulkster was accompanied by Jimmy Hart and was mainly booed by fans while cutting a promo. As it turns out, the mixed reaction bothered the two-time Hall of Famer.

On the Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw podcast, Jimmy Hart shared that they already expected mixed reactions due to Hogan’s political affiliation, but were shocked when the boos were louder than cheers.

So we go out, we kind of get a mixed reaction, you know. And you know this, you can have 500 people cheering you and one person booing you, but I’ll be darn if that one person boo outshine the 500 cheering for you. You know how that works, right? So we go out. So it’s kind of a mixed reaction, but it’s a little bit more boos than anything. But that devastated him.”

The Mouth of the South added that after their appearance, Hulk asked him the reason for the crowd reaction, to which Hart said was due to his political affiliations. Although the duo was cheered in their next appearance in Texas, The Hulkster was still bothered by the reaction he received in Los Angeles.
