Former WWE Superstar Tegan Nox has revealed she only found out that her tag team with Shotzi had been split up by the company when she saw social media.
After several injury plagued on NXT, Welsh wrestler Tegan Nox made the move to the WWE main roster in the summer of 2021. Nox lost her first name but gained a tag team partner when she was paired up with fellow NXT alumnus, Shotzi.
Together the women proved a successful unit on SmackDown, defeating the then-WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Natalya and Tamina on multiple occasions to earn a shot at the gold. However, that shot never came and when the WWE Draft took place in October, Nox and Shotzi were unceremoniously split up. Just over one month after that, Tegan Nox was released from her WWE contract.
Speaking on Into The Danger Zone w/ Chris Denker, Nox – now better known as Nixon Newell – described how the duo had received no warning of their impending split, and only found out via Twitter:
“It was pretty difficult. Me and Shotzi got quite close during that whole stint. I was driving, Shotzi was in the seat next to me, and Toni [Storm] was in the back, and she said “oh my god, you’re on Raw, we’re on Raw.” Then she went “wait, no, I’m still on Smackdown. They made a mistake.”
“No idea. We were number one contenders for like 6, 7 weeks. We won God knows how many number one contendership matches. But no, they didn’t give us any indication. We just found out on Twitter.”
Shotzi has not appeared on SmackDown since December 2021 with her last in-ring appearance for WWE occurring at the 2022 Royal Rumble when she entered the women’s Rumble match. Shotzi was one of the four women eliminated by Ronda Rousey who went on to win the match in her WWE return.
