Tegan Nox Reveals When She Found Out About SmackDown Call Up

By James Holder. Published 31st July 2021.
Tegan Nox

Speaking in a new interview, new SmackDown Superstar Tegan Nox has lifted the lid on her arrival on WWE’s main roster.

Tegan Nox endured something of a stop-start beginning to her WWE career as her early appearances were blighted by injury. Nox was initially meant to take part in the 2017 Mae Young Classic but was forced to withdraw due to injury. Her next foray into WWE came in the 2018 edition of the tournament, where after making it through two rounds, again had to pull out due to a serious knee injury.

The now SmackDown Superstar finally arrived in NXT in the summer of 2019 feuding with Kay Lee Rae. However, the Welsh star was struck down by a knee injury for a third time in September 2020.

‘The Girl with the Shiniest Wizard’ arrived back on the black and gold brand at the Great American Bash where she attacked Candice LeRae. It was shortly after this appearance that Nox debuted on SmackDown alongside Shotzi Blackheart on July 9th.

In conversation with Alistair McGeorge of The Metro, Nox revealed that she only found out that she was joining the main roster, the same day she debuted on SmackDown. She also explained that she was surprised to learn that the appearance wasn’t just a one off.

“We knew we were having a tag match on TV but we didn’t even think we were getting called up until after the match. John Laurinaitis was like, “Congratulations, welcome to SmackDown!” Like, oh – I guess we go here now!”

“I assumed it would be something like when we did the whole invasion angle with NXT attacking SmackDown and Raw. I just assumed it was something like that, maybe happening at SummerSlam. “No, you’re on SmackDown now!” Oh, ok – thank you!”

Nox added that along with her new tag team partner Shotzi Blackheart, the pair have been welcomed into the SmackDown locker room.

“Tamina’s been really really good. She’s a mother to the entire women’s lockerrom anyway, but she calls us babies because we’re the babies of SmackDown now,’ she gushed.

That entire women’s lockerrom – including the men’s – they’re so nice and supportive. They wanna help you succeed, which I didn’t thing was gonna be a situation. I thought us being the new girls, “Oh God, no one’s gonna want to wrestle us!”

Nox and Shotzi debuted on SmackDown with a stunning victory over Women’s Tag Team Champions Natalya and Tamina. The pair followed up the win with another victory over champions in a contenders match a week later.

However, the pair may have to wait for their shot at the titles after Natalya suffered an ankle injury on RAW.
