Former WWE Superstar Tegan Nox has claimed that she didn’t fit the demographic that the company were looking for, despite her wrestling ability.
Despite enduring something of a stop-start beginning to her WWE career, Tegan Nox finally made it to the main roster in July 2021.
Nox was initially meant to take part in the 2017 Mae Young Classic but was forced to withdraw due to injury. Her next foray into WWE came in the 2018 edition of the tournament, where after making it through two rounds, she again had to pull out due to a serious knee injury.
The Welsh star finally arrived in NXT in the summer of 2019 feuding with Kay Lee Rae. However, the Welsh star was struck down by a knee serious injury for a third time in September 2020.
After initially teaming with Shotzi Blackheart on SmackDown the pair were split up in the 2021 Draft with Nox heading to Raw. However, she was released in November, before even appearing on the red brand.
During a new interview with Chris Denker on Into The Danger Zone, Nox reflected on her departure from the company, saying she felt she no longer fit WWE’s demographic. Furthermore, she said the product has returned to the ‘Diva era’ in how they present their female stars.
“It’s a lot of different things. Everyone is walking on eggshells. With all the releases happening, you kind of feel, ‘it could be me next.’ I just had this feeling where I wasn’t…not welcome, but as such wanted; I don’t fit the demographic that they’re looking for. I’m a five-foot six blonde-brunette girl, covered in tattoos. Watching the product now, it’s very much Diva era, going back to it, I feel. I always felt like I was on the chopping block, even if I could wrestle. I was not much of a personality or character enough for them to keep my job, which is weird.”
Nox claimed that she always felt she wasn’t what WWE were looking for, and knew her fate was sealed as soon as her partnership with Shotzi was broken up.
“If they give me a character, I take it and run with it. I was always kept as ‘the girl next door’ and I’m not the girl next door. Let me be me. I was me for six years before I got signed, let me do something like that. I always had the feeling that I’m not what they’re looking for. As soon as they split me and Shotzi up, I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m on the block next.’ We found out we switched brands as we were in the car going back to the hotel.”
Tegan Nox hasn’t wrestled since teaming with Shotzi in defeat to Natalya and Tamina at a WWE live event on October 17th 2021. However, her non-compete clause has now expired meaning that she is a free agent.
