IWGP Tag Team Champion Tama Tonga has responded to reports that Michael Elgin has told many in IMPACT Wrestling that he left NJPW because Tonga injured him with unsafe chairshots.
According to Fightful Select, Elgin has accused the Bullet Club member of injuring his biceps when attacking with a chair during the G1 Tournament in 2018.
Tonga addressed the allegations on his podcast, Tama’s Island, saying that he hit the mat with with the chair, and not Elgin’s arm. He also said that Elgin already had his arm taped up before the incident.
“I hit him with a bunch of chair shots. I was just doing what I was told to do. The chair was plastic Michael Elgin! I’m a great worker and he said I was swinging like a wild man trying to hurt him. Nah, man. I put out his arm and hit the damn mat. Michael Elgin, you b***h ass, acting like you had an injury. You had your arm taped already, are you bitching about that? It seemed like every time you’re about to lose, you’re all taped up. Elgin, you’re the biggest dumb idiot.”
With regards to why the former IWGP Intercontinental Champion left NJPW, Tonga claimed that Elgin had asked to leave the company to spend more time with his family. He also says Elgin won’t be back in the promotion because he took bookings with other promotions, including NJPW’s rivals in Japan, after leaving.
“The real reason that dumbass idiot Michael Elgin ain’t coming back to New Japan is because of his own damn stupid fault. This idiot was contracted with New Japan. Our schedule was pretty busy and when contract season was coming up, he still had another year. This dumbass told New Japan, ‘look, my son, I need to go home and spend more time. I need to go home.’ New Japan, being the family business that they are let him go and let him go out of his contract. He went home. Soon after that, he shows up on IMPACT. New Japan is blown away. What the f**k are you doing? Then, from IMPACT the following month and back in Japan working for All Japan.”
Tonga finished by addressing the possibility that he was the reason Elgin would not be back in NJPW.
“Elgin, you’re the biggest f*****g idiot I’ve ever seen in my life bro. It’s your own damn fault. Why are you telling everybody that I won’t let you come back to New Japan? No. You’re your own reason why. You f****d that up yourself. How you gonna leave Japan because the schedule is too busy and then come back to work for a rival company? You’re a f*****g idiot.”
Michael Elgin worked in NJPW from 2015-2019, and won the IWGP Intercontinental and NEVER Openweight Championships during his time there.
Tama Tonga is no stranger to speaking his mind, having recently been vocal about the Bullet Club reunion in AEW. He is currently one half of the IWGP Tag Team Champions, Guerillas of Destiny, alongside his adopted brother, Tanga Loa.
