Swerve Strickland has addressed a report about AEW contracts where he was listed as one of the examples.
Prior to All In, Strickland appeared in a pre-recorded segment to announce that he had signed a new contract, which was reported to be a big money deal. While many were happy that Strickland received the new offer given the excellent work he had been doing in 2024, a report stating otherwise created discourse among fans.
As previously reported by Dave Meltzer, those within WWE were concerned that recent AEW deals were “bad for the sport” as they were “so far over what would WWE would perceive the market value”, citing Strickland’s new deal and a reported offer presented to Daniel Garcia as examples.
While appearing on The Breakfast Club, the report was brought up and the former World Champion responded:
“They only complain when a Black person gets paid, I will say that. We shake the foundation of things like that. ‘Oh snap, wait. That’s not what we would pay.’ Then why are you calling me? Why are you asking me? If I’m not your concern then don’t worry about it. Don’t worry about my pockets and our money. We’re good. You have your talent. You made your decision with me two years ago. No hard feelings from me. I keep it moving and I’m going to figure my way out and I’m going to build myself up.”
What’s Next For Swerve Strickland?
Although the former World Champion has not been seen since his loss to Adam Page at All Out, Prince Nana appeared live at Grand Slam to provide an update on the status of Strickland. For Nana, the segment did not go to plan thanks to an unexpected arrival formerly from WWE.
H/t to Fightful.
