A new report has claimed that WWE recently contacted Swerve Strickland over a return to the company.
Swerve Strickland made his AEW debut at Revolution on March 6th where the former WWE Superstar was presented to the crowd.
Strickland made his in-ring debut five days later on Rampage where he defeated Tony Nese. The then formed a team with another ex-WWE star in Keith Lee, later dubbed Swerve in our Glory. The pair went on to win the AEW World Tag Team Titles before losing them to The Acclaimed at AEW Dynamite Grand Slam.
During this period there had been reports that WWE had reached out to a number of AEW stars in an effort to get them to sign with the company. This prompted Megha Parekh, AEW’s Chief Legal Officer and the promotion’s second in command had emailed WWE’s Nick Khan and Stephanie McMahon, warning them “not to tamper” with talent.
While it was previously reported that the company “sent out feelers” to FTR, it has now been noted that they approached Swerve Strickland. The report from Fightful Select claims that Strickland referred WWE to his attorney and held no interest in returning to the company.
It is also suggested that the approach was linked to Hit Row’s recent WWE return. Strickland had been a founding member of the group while in NXT. Despite speculation to the contrary, Keith Lee has not been contacted by WWE.
