Swerve Strickland has provided more details regarding his current AEW deal.
After having a breakout year in 2023 which included his rivalry with Adam Page and a strong showing in the Continental Classic, Strickland became an even bigger star in 2024 as he won the World Championship and headlined All In at Wembley Stadium against Bryan Danielson.
During the All In pre-show, Strickland appeared in a segment with Tony Khan, where it was announced that the former World Champion had signed a new deal and would remain All Elite for the foreseeable future.
While speaking with Bootleg Kev, Strickland confirmed that his deal runs until 2029, meaning that he signed a 5-year deal back in 2024:
“Yup (I’m signed to AEW until 2029). There’s nowhere else I would rather be. A lot of people say, ‘Oh, that’s just a PR. He’s supposed to say that sh*t.’ Nah, I mean that sh*t from the bottom of my heart. There’s no other place I’d rather be and do I have bad days as opposed to good days? Of course. This is a job. I have frustrations here and there. But, I work through those frustrations better here than I did in other places and anywhere else in the world.
Whether it’d be Lucha Underground, MLW, WWE, NXT. Tony Khan and me have always worked through frustrations… Yeah (he lets me cook). But there’s certain times I’m like, ‘Ah, we didn’t cook as best as we could have been able to cook’ and I’m someone, I’m not going to half-ass that.”
After defeating Ricochet at Revolution, Strickland is now the number one contender to Jon Moxley’s World Championship.
Swerve Strickland Remaining With AEW
Shortly after the news broke that the former World Champion had signed a new deal, it was further reported that Strickland’s deal was significantly more than the first contract signed back in 2022. Addressing his AEW re-signing, Swerve Strickland stated that he earned his new deal.
