Surprising Match To Main Event Night One Of WWE WrestleMania 39 Due To “Political Reasons”

WWE WrestleMania 39

With WrestleMania 39 just over two weeks away the card for the spectacular is mostly confirmed.

Topping the bill is the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match between champion Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes. The bout will see the long-reigning champion put his gold on the line against the Royal Rumble winner and one of the most popular stars in WWE.

At present, four other title matches have been confirmed for the show, and it appears that one of them will be headlining night one.

It has long been believed that ahead of WrestleMania Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens would finally reunite to take their fight to The Bloodline. This in theory would set up a match between the pair and The Usos, potentially for the Undisputed Tag Team Titles. That match would then headline night one of WrestleMania, with Reigns vs. Rhodes headlining night two. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

According to a new report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the SmackDown Women’s Title match between Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley will top the card on April 1st. Meltzer added that the decision was taken for political reasons.

“It appears to be official at this point that the two WrestleMania main events will be Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley on 4/1, which will also include Seth Rollins vs. Logan Paul, and Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes on 4/2.

We had reported weeks back that Reigns vs. Rhodes was the night two main event and that Flair vs. Ripley was favored to be the night one main event. When we had asked about Usos vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn headlining night one, since at the time Zayn was the company’s hottest babyface character, we were told that there were political reasons in play to where Flair vs. Ripley would most likely get that spot.”
