SummerSlam 2025: CM Punk Wins First WWE World Title In 12 Years After Adding To Gunther’s Injury

CM Punk wins first WWE World Title at SummerSlam

CM Punk has done the unthinkable once again. The WWE star won his first world title with the promotion in 12 years.

CM Punk faced Gunther in what was a classic encounter at SummerSlam, with both stars leaving it all in the ring. The Ring General dominated proceedings from the get-go as he brutalized Punk with some heavy chops and beatdowns. However, the Second City Saint was not done just yet as he came back to dish out some offense of his own.

At one point in the match at SummerSlam, Gunther boasted on the announce table about how this was going to be an easy win for him, but things would soon go downhill.

CM Punk Bloodied Gunther In Brutal Spot To Win The WWE World Title At SummerSlam

CM Punk pulled Gunther while the latter was on the announcer’s desk. This led to the champion having a bad fall. He emerged from the heap in a pool of his own blood with a potential broken nose. The star is already said to be suffering from a nose issue, and this would only go on to aggravate the matter. Gunther was not the same man after the spot as he failed to get a grasp of the match at SummerSlam.

Punk then hit two back-to-back GTS to take him the victory. This was CM Punk’s first WWE World Title win in 12 years since he last held a world title in 2013. The star then went on to AEW and won the world title there, but in a WWE sense, this was his first world title in over a decade.

It seems Gunther will be taking some time off after the supposed nose injury.
