The date for SummerSlam 2021 has reportedly been revealed.
As reported by Mike Johnson of PWInsider SummerSlam will take place on August 22nd. Although the location for the event is yet to be finalised.
It has been suggested in recent weeks that SummerSlam will be used as a launch event for WWE to return to touring. The report from Wrestle Votes noted that there were three or four potential locations in the running to host the show, while one is apparently a firm favourite.
Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer had earlier reported that WWE talent had been told to expect to return to the road in August, with the caveat that the date may be as early as late July.
It may also be pertinent to note that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has said that he will be “issuing an executive order to outlaw all local COVID-19 emergency mandates in the state effective July 1.”
Interestingly the report from CBS News also highlights that other areas of the US are also looking to follow suit. Adding, that New York City expects to return to full capacity on July 1st. While Rochelle Walensky Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that July 1st is a reasonable target “for essentially returning to normal.” Although this is dependent on vaccination rates and case numbers continuing to fall.
Should New York and other jurisdictions lift COVID restrictions it could potentially open the door for WWE to move from Florida, where they have been based for over a year.
