A retired WWE star made bold claims on the future of Logan Paul as the biggest babyface in the company.
Logan Paul first stepped into a WWE ring at WrestleMania 38 on April 2, 2022, teaming with The Miz to defeat Rey and Dominik Mysterio. Since then, he has signed a multi-year deal with WWE, competed part-time on SmackDown, and captured the United States Championship, holding the title for 273 days. But there has been a lot of heat around his character, following his actions in WWE. The moment his music hits, the entire arena erupts with loud boos and chants against him.
Recently, a WWE legend, Sgt. Slaughter talked about the possibility of Paul becoming the biggest babyface ever in history. In his appearance on Sportskeeda WrestleBinge, he said,
Once he establishes himself as the biggest villain, he’ll be the biggest hero of all time. I think he’ll surpass every hero we’ve ever had in this business because once the people believe in him, like they did me at the Alley Fight, when they threw in the towel, when The General threw in the towel, Ernie Roth, people were like, ‘Wait, Sarge ain’t done. Although he’s bleeding to death, he’s still trying to get back in the ring and fight Pat Patterson.
And it [Pat Patterson winning] was a way to stop the match without anybody getting pinned or losing, but it made Sgt. Slaughter. Everybody said, ‘That’s the toughest S.O.B. we’ve ever seen. He still wants to fight, and he’s bleeding to death.’ That’s what Logan Paul has to create. He’s gotta be the biggest villain of all time, and then when the time is right, someone’s gotta look out because he’s gonna turn into the hero, and they’re gonna blow the roof off.” (2:20 – 3:37)
Logan Paul’s Heel Foundation Provides Perfect Setup
Paul’s current heel persona has generated considerable heat from WWE audiences, establishing the foundation, that Sgt. Slaughter believes, is essential for a successful babyface turn. Paul’s 273-day reign as United States Champion demonstrated his ability to draw consistent negative reactions while elevating the championship’s profile through his social media presence and mainstream appearances.
The WWE Hall of Famer, The Undertaker, praised Paul’s championship reign, noting how he ‘made that belt relevant again’ through his commitment to carrying the title everywhere. This recognition from wrestling legends suggests Paul has already proven his dedication to the business beyond his initial celebrity status.
Paul’s recent feuds with established stars like John Cena have showcased his ability to generate genuine emotion from audiences. At Clash in Paris on August 31, 2025, Paul’s match against Cena in one of the veteran’s final European appearances demonstrated his capacity to work compelling storylines with wrestling legends. The match received praise for its athleticism and storytelling, further cementing Paul’s credibility as a legitimate WWE performer.
Paul’s massive global following sets him apart from many WWE stars. With millions of followers across platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok, Paul brings an unparalleled level of mainstream attention to WWE. This reach not only fuels his ability to generate heat as a heel but also amplifies the potential impact of his eventual babyface turn.
