Former WWF Champion, Stone Cold Steve Austin, recently spoke out about the striking similarities between him and Bill Goldberg and how the pair often get confused for each other.
When Goldberg first stepped foot in World Championship Wrestling, the resemblance to the oppositions Stone Cold Steve Austin was uncanny. They shared the same hair-do – namely shaven bald – a very similar beard and even their attire was a match with black trunks, noir knee pads and boots.
In fact the only thing that distinguished them was the knee brace on Austin’s leg and the UFC inspired gloves sported by Goldberg as he decimated all who dared challenge him.
Now, ‘The Texas Rattlesnake’ has sat down with Bailey and Southside to discuss how often the pair get mistaken for each other:
“Well, when I was coming up and really starting to get hot in WWF back in the day, and Bill down in WCW, he started getting hot almost at the same time — boy, ‘Goldberg!’ chants. Bill is one of my best friends that I’ll call all the time. I’d be going through airports, and people would yell, ‘Goldberg!’ He would be going through an airport. ‘Stone Cold!’ People got us confused all the time.
If you puts us side by side, Bill is a bigger guy than I am, but if you just see a bald-headed dude with a goatee and some sunglasses on, it’s pretty easy to get fooled by who it is.”
While the dream match of Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Goldberg never occurred, the pair shared a stage in 2003 when the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion arrived on the red brand which Austin served as co-General Manager of. They then shared a ring at WrestleMania XX in 2004 when Austin officiated Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar.
