Sting joined a plethora of names in the entertainment industry in mourning the death of iconic pro wrestling figure, Hulk Hogan.

Hogan passed away earlier today, on July 24, just two weeks before his 72nd birthday. The Hulkster was on the verge of a new collaboration prior to his death. He and fellow WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff had partnered up to start ‘Real American Freestyle’ Wrestling.

RAF Wrestling was intended to rival WWE and even UFC in terms of mainstream popularity. Recently, those backing the new venture had announced that another wrestling legend Kurt Angle would also join them in the promotion as a commentator and partner.

Sting Calls Hulk Hogan “THE GREATEST OF ALL” Following The Immortal One’s Death

Hogan and Sting were signed to WCW in the ’90s, when The Hulkster made waves in the industry when his goody-two-shoes, near superhero-like character shockingly turned heel. This moment happened at WCW’s Bash at the Beach on July 7, 1996. In the main event of the show, Hogan was revealed as Kevin Nash and Scott Hall’s tag team partner against the babyfaces Randy Savage, Sting, and Lex Luger. This moment broke many hearts, as audiences began throwing trash after the main event. A fan even tried to jump Hogan, only to be stopped by Nash and Hall.

On X/Twitter, Sting called The Immortal One the “greatest of all.” Being part of such an iconic moment, The Stinger penned a deeply personal tribute to the late legend.

HULK HOGAN – THE GREATEST OF ALL. Can’t thank you enough for all that you did for me and for wrestling fans all over the world. I loved you and I will miss you. My friend, Terry Bollea, RIP,” Sting wrote.

When Hogan re-signed with WWE, he returned as ‘Hollywood’ Hulk Hogan alongside his original nWo stablemates Kevin Nash and Scott Hall, where the group feuded with The Rock and ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin. In one of the most iconic moments during his second heel run in the wrestling industry, Hogan would ironically get cheered over The Brahma Bull at WrestleMania X8, as an audible was sent out during the bout, after which the pair exchanged roles.

Meanwhile, Sting retired from in-ring competition on March 3, 2024, after tagging alongside Darby Allin to defeat The Young Bucks at AEW Revolution. As a result, the duo retained the AEW World Tag Team Championship. Sting ended his nearly 40-year wrestling career afterwards, retiring as champion.
