Sting has discussed what the future holds for him in the wrestling world.
AEW Revolution saw Sting compete in his final match and triumph over The Young Bucks. Going out on top and issuing a lengthy thank you to everyone in Greensboro and in All Elite Wrestling, The Icon got the send-off he well and truly deserved. With the in-ring career now officially over, what is next for the Hall of Famer?
With many from the wrestling world choosing to remain in the business in some form or fashion, fans are expecting to see The Icon onscreen again at some point in the future. However, if Sting does return, it might not be in the role that many expect.
Speaking at the post-show press conference, The Icon acknowledged that Tony Khan would like him to be a part of the promotion moving forward, but stated that there are some roles he will not be undertaking in All Elite Wrestling:
“Tony has mentioned me staying on board in some form or fashion. We haven’t really worked anything out there yet, but I’m sure we’ll have some kind of conversation and I’m saying maybe, we’ll see what happens. I have no interest in being a manager or anything like that or an agent. I don’t want to do any of that kind of stuff. I’m not sure what I can offer,”
Update On Post-Match Plans & Future Sting Appearances
Following on from the victory, questions about what’s next were answered at the press conference and in a backstage report. With Sting retiring as Tag Team Champion alongside Darby Allin, Tony Khan confirmed at the press conference that the titles would be vacated and that a tournament would be held to crown new Tag Team Champions.
In regards to the finish of the match, which saw the Tag Team Championships not change hands, Fightful Select reports that this finish was decided upon “weeks ago”, adding that AEW and Tony Khan were “adamant” that The Icon have his hand raised when all was said and done. Additionally, the main focus was always honouring Sting appropriately for the match and having The Icon main event the show was pretty much always the plan.
Fightful’s report concludes by stating that as of right now there are no scheduled appearances for the Hall of Famer in the near future.
At AEW Revolution, Sting was bestowed with a unique honour.
H/t to Fightful.
