Steve Austin Reportedly Yet To Commit To In-Ring Return

Stone Cold Steve Austin

A new report has suggested that Steve Austin is yet to commit to an in-ring return despite attempts from WWE to bring him out of retirement.

Although only a handful of people knew it at the time, Stone Cold Steve Austin wrestled his last match on March 30th 2003 in Seattle Washington at WrestleMania XIX.

The bout against The Rock, saw the two legends bring down the curtain on their trilogy of WrestleMania matches as Austin rode off into the sunset. The Texas Rattlesnake had decided to call time on his Hall of Fame career as a result of his well publicised neck issues, despite being only 38 years old.

However, despite years of insisting that he was content in retirement and happy with his lot, a new report has claimed that WWE have attempted to entice Stone Cold back into the ring for one more match. The report noting that WWE had made a “significant overture” to a man widely regarded as one of the biggest stars in the history of the business.

A fresh report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider, has now offered a further update on the situation.

Johnson notes that WWE reached out to Austin in late December/early January to gauge his interest in doing something at WrestleMania 38. However, there has been “zero” confirmation that Austin will be lacing up his boots one more time.

The pitch from WWE would see Austin return to the ring for a one-off match which would act as a huge send-off for the star and help drive tickets for the company. Johnson adds that WWE always intended for Austin to be involved with the event in some capacity, even if he doesn’t wrestle. He has been heavily featured in promotional material and commercials since the show was announced.

The report later reaffirms that Austin is yet to commit to wrestling at the Texas spectacular.

Following the news that WWE had reached out to Austin over an in-ring return, it was reported that a potential clash with Kevin Owens had been discussed.

On the most recent episode of Monday Night Raw, Owens reiterated his dislike for Texas in a new promo, further adding to the speculation.
