With the Royal Rumble moving ever closer attention is beginning to turn to WrestleMania and who might face Roman Reigns at the spectacular.
There have been rumours for months that the Tribal Chief will be facing The Rock, but that bout appears to be far from cut and dried. With uncertainty around an appearance from The Great One, there has been speculation that Cody Rhodes could be Reigns’ opponent or even that Sami Zayn could get his big moment.
Zayn has been part of The Bloodline for a number of months but has often found himself on the wrong side of Reigns. Although on the surface their relationship is strong, there have been hints that all might not be well in the long run. A possible end-game could see Zayn topple Reigns at WrestleMania after their partnership comes to an end.
Roman Reigns Could Be Betrayed By Sami Zayn
Taking this idea one further, former WWE writer Vince Russo has suggested that Steve Austin could also be thrown into the mix. Speaking on Sportskeeda’s Wrestling Outlaws show, Russo pitched that Zayn could betray Reigns which led to Austin winning. But the WWE legend immediately vacates his newly won gold, setting up the match between Reigns and Zayn.
“Can you imagine if you used Zayn and, because of the turn [Zayn betraying Reigns], Austin goes over, wins the title,” Russo said. “But hold on for a second, Chris [host Dr. Chris Featherstone]. Then Austin cuts the promo, ‘Listen, man, after being in the ring with the best, I realized…’ he can’t go on anymore (…) He relinquishes that belt and then it’s between Reigns and Zayn.”
Rumours around a potential WrestleMania appearance from Steve Austin continue to swirl despite the man himself insisting he isn’t training for a comeback. In recent months Austin has posted a series of workout videos on social media where he appears to be in incredible shape. In typical Austin fashion he stated that he’s not training for anything in particular, he just got tired of “looking like sh*t.”
