WWE Hall of Famer ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin has recently opened up about his friendship with the late Brian Pillman.
‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and Brian Pillman were a successful tag team in WCW in the early 1990s, picking up the NWA/WCW World Tag Team Championships during their time as The Hollywood Blonds.
Speaking to Sportskeeda Wrestling’s Senior Editor Bill Apter, Steve Austin has recently revealed his thoughts on the toughness of Brian Pillman, both in and out of the squared circle:
“Cutting edge [when asked how to describe him]. He was one of those guys who was out there in front. He was a smaller guy, even going back to his high school, his football days, his college days, the few pro days that he had, Brian was a tough S.O.B. He was a man’s man.”
Before his time as ‘Stone Cold’ in WWE, the future multi-time World Champion was known as ‘Stunning’ Steve Austin in WCW before he started teaming with Brian Pillman. He was initially unsure about starting to team with him as The Hollywood Blonds:
“We, by chance, got hooked up as a tag team. I didn’t like it because I didn’t really understand tag team wrestling, but as Brian and I traveled together we became very, very close. He turned in to be one of the best friends I had in the business, and I loved working as a tag with him.”
Pillman’s son, Brian Pillman Jr., has brought back the vibe of The Hollywood Blonds, teaming with Griff Garrison in AEW as The Varsity Blonds. They have recently been involved in a storyline with The House of Black, where their partner Julia Hart turned on them, joining Malakai Black’s stable. Pillman Jr. has recently talked about the possibility of a singles run for both him and Garrison.
