Steve Austin Admits Missing WrestleMania 41 Main Event

Stone Cold Steve Austin appeared at WrestleMania 41 but did not stick around for the main event.

Steve Austin was a part of the Las Vegas proceedings as he was inducted into the Hall of Fame for the second time, when his WrestleMania 13 match against Bret Hart. Then, on WrestleMania 41 Sunday he appeared to announce the official attendance, but not before crashing his quad bike into the barrier and seemingly injuring a woman in the front row.

This was the final appearance of the Texas Rattlesnake that evening. Many fans had fantasy-booked Austin into the Cody Rhodes vs. John Cena main event, expecting him to play a role in the outcome, especially with The Rock also heavily expected to be involved in the title match, However, neither legend appeared, leaving much of the audience deeply disappointed.

While appearing on The Ariel Helwani Show, the journalist asked Austin about his time at the big event and if he watched the controversial main event, to which he replied

“I didn’t see it,”

Then, when pressed on why he missed it or if he had seen it since, Austin responded

No, I just wanted to beat the crowd. I haven’t watched it back,”.

Steve Austin Explains WWE WrestleMania 41 Role: “I Did What I Could”; Reveals Limitations

During the same interview, Austin revealed that recent knee surgery severely limited what he could do at WrestleMania 41 stating:

“I was just happy to be there. I had a knee replacement about four months ago. For a total knee replacement to heal up 100%, you’re looking at about a year. That was on December 4th. I don’t squat anymore, I’m doing some Hindu squats along with my workouts, but I haven’t even tried to run yet. I don’t even know if I can run, not that I run a lot to the ring. I would imagine about I’m 30-35% of capacity. I did what I could.

Just to be involved in the show, go out there and announce the attendance, that’s what I did. That’s about all I could do. Earlier in the year, not really discussions, just brief, ‘Hey, if you want to be there, maybe we can figure you in.’ I said, ‘I’m getting my knee replaced. We’ll see what happens when that time comes.’ Time came and I can’t do much.”
