Stephanie McMahon’s Replacement Joins WWE

Stephanie McMahon

Following Stephanie McMahon’s recent departure from her WWE duties, one of her replacements has now been announced.

On May 19th Stephanie McMahon announced that she is taking a leave of absence from WWE. In a short statement posted on social media, McMahon said that she would be stepping away from “the majority” of her responsibilities with the company.

“As of tomorrow, I am taking a leave of absence from the majority of my responsibilities at WWE. WWE is a lifelong legacy for me and I look forward to returning to the company that I love after taking this time to focus on my family.”

Since then, rumours have raged about McMahon’s departure with a WWE insider claiming that McMahon was moved on due to poor performance. Speaking to Business Insider, the unnamed insider said that the company wasn’t seeing the growth it expected:

“Family or not family, we’ve got to get the right people in place. We weren’t seeing that growth. When someone is moved out of a company, it’s usually the result of something not working. We took stronger control of that a few months ago.”

WWE has now announced that Catherine Newman has been appointed to the company as the new EVP and Head of Marketing. The role differs in name from Stephanie McMahon’s title of Chief Brand Officer but Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio that “she’s basically taking over most of Stephanie’s duties, so she’s the replacement.”

Newman joins WWE from Manchester United where she acted as the club’s Chief Marketing Officer. Prior to that Catherine Newman spent almost five years working for Rupert Murdoch’s News UK.
