A new report shed light on when Stephanie McMahon found out about allegations against her father and how it might have affected her WWE hiatus.
On June 15th, news broke via the Wall Street Journal that Vince McMahon was being investigated by the WWE Board of Directors for allegedly paying $3 million to a former employee with whom he’d previously had an affair.
The Journal’s report continues to say that the board’s investigation has also unearthed older non-disclosure agreements that surround claims of misconduct made by other former female WWE employees that involve both Vince McMahon and WWE’s Head of Talent Relations, John Laurinaitis. However, it is not known how many of these claims are being looked into but payments made in relation to them are said to run into the millions of dollars.
In the wake of these accusations, questions have arisen as to when Stephanie McMahon – who announced her hiatus from the company in May – found out about the allegations against her father and whether or not that could have affected her decision to take a leave of absence.
While her departure was initially said to be 100% her decision, other reports indicated that there may have been doubt within the company about her abilities in carrying out the duties of her position.
The uncertainty surrounding Stephanie McMahon’s decision becomes even more interesting in light of allegations against her father, and according to a new report from Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, members of the McMahon family are not involved in the investigation – but Stephanie McMahon’s position on the WWE Board of Directors means that she would have had information about these allegations before she announced her hiatus.
“One of the points that I want to make before we go on is that the investigation is being headed by Man Jit Singh, who is one of the Board of Directors, and the McMahon family members are not involved. Now there’s the big question of the Board of Directors started getting this information a couple months ago, they got the information before Stephanie quit.
“So Stephanie would have known about this before she quit. Whether this is tied in or not, we do not know, but it is um… the timing becomes very very interesting, because of her leaving, and then of her being buried on the way out.
“When all these stories broke, both her leaving and her being buried later, which came out a couple weeks later, we kept saying, ‘Why would Vince bury her?’ And I still don’t have an answer as to why, but this does add an element of you know, another dynamic of everything that was going on while this was going on.”
Later in the episode, Dave Meltzer speculated about the possible succession plan if Vince McMahon were to step down from his position in WWE.
“The other aspect is if something were to happen with Vince, what is the succession plan? Who is the guy who will be in charge? There will be absolute chaos there, and there’s a question of will there be a sale? There’s a question of where does Stephanie McMahon fit in, why was she buried?”
During Stephanie McMahon’s absence from WWE, it was initially said that WWE President Nick Khan would be stepping in to take over her duties, but the company has also sought to hire a new employee to take over some of her responsibilities during her hiatus.
The allegations against Vince McMahon have been major news, and were even referenced on an upcoming episode of AEW Rampage.
