Becky Lynch hasn’t been seen on WWE television since relinquishing her WWE RAW Women’s Championship on May 11th 2020.
Lynch had held the title since winning the belt, along with the SmackDown equivalent, in a winner takes all Triple Threat Match at WrestleMania 35, defeating Ronda Rousey and Charlotte.
‘The Man’ would eventually lose the SmackDown belt but would hold the RAW Women’s Title until the night after Money In The Bank 2020.
During the episode of RAW, Lynch would give her up championship, revealing that she was pregnant with her first child. The title was then handed to Asuka, who had won the Money In The Bank Ladder Match the night before.
You would be forgiven for thinking that Lynch would have switched off from wrestling, but in a new interview, Stephanie McMahon has explained that has been far from the case.
Appearing on the Bill Simmons Podcast, McMahon recalled being excited for Lynch and her partner Seth Rollins, while also facing the challenge of losing the woman who had become one of the biggest stars in the company.
“I think it’s kind of simultaneous. It’s reality, and you know, this is a physical business, so it’s not like she could continue to compete because she’s pregnant. But so incredibly happy for her, her and Seth, you know, WWE Superstars, and here they are having a baby.”
McMahon then went on to reveal that she had stayed in contact with Becky Lynch during her time away, and that ‘The Man’ pitched a crazy storyline involving being attacked at the maternity ward.
“But it’s funny, I kept talking to Becky all during her pregnancy and then afterwards. And she was actually pitching somebody jumping her in the maternity ward! She’s just well, you know, ‘I guess we could re-enact it.'”
Perhaps interestingly, WWE’s Chief Brand Officer also refused to rule out Becky Lynch returning at WrestleMania 37. When it was suggested that Lynch could make a surprise appearance at Raymond James Stadium, Stephanie McMahon, noted that anything’s possible.
“Anything can happen. You never know Bill. [Simmons] You never know.”
With regard to a potential return, WWE President Nick Khan recently commented that “Becky Lynch, she just had her first baby, she will be coming back at a certain point in time in the not too distant future.”
Khan also noted that former UFC star Ronda Rousey will also be returning at a “certain point in time.”
