Stephanie Mcmahon Looks To Her Father’s Global Expansion Of WWE For Inspiration
Speaking at the 6th annual Wells Fargo TMT Summit, WWE co-CEO Stephanie McMahon (via Insider) revealed that WWE has given consideration to promoting boxing.
“Who’s the lineal champion? Who’s the WBC champion? Who’s the this — it’s kind of it’s all over the place,” McMahon said.
“My father, Vince McMahon, who was the Chairman and CEO, obviously had the opportunity to roll up all of those different territories and create one major brand in WWE that is now gone from a regional, territorial content play to a global media franchise,” she said.
Now, there may be a time to “replicate” what Vince McMahon did in the coming months and years in a new industry. “Boxing being an idea of one of them,” she said.
In the past, WWE has done business with boxers. Muhammad Ali was a part of the first-ever WrestleMania as a special referee in the main event match. At WrestleMania 24, Floyd Mayweather had a special attraction match against the Big Show. Most recently, Tyson Fury has been a part of WWE events.
WWE has always had a penchant for thinking outside the box and maybe, they are ready to step into a new ring and find a new way to entertain fans.
Currently, it is unclear what approach they would take to get into the boxing industry. In the past, Vince McMahon did help promote fights and would advertise them during WWE pay-per-views.
Vince McMahon retired from WWE in the summer of 2022 following sexual misconduct allegations.
We will continue to monitor this story and report any and all updates on WWE potentially making a move to promote boxing.
